I am not quite sure when I lost touch with what the ‘cool people’ are wearing?
Every time I open up TikTok I’m greeted with another video on all the lame things us Millennials wear. Most of the time I don’t care but sometimes I walk into a fancy new bar or hipster coffee shop, and I feel completely out of place!
Last week I was just about to walk into one of those coffee shops when a young (very cool) Gen Z stopped and said, “I love your jeans, where are they from?”
I replied, “Cotton On – they were $50.”
This poor girl almost looked embarrassed that she had complimented me on my “cheap” denim.
It is a tale as old as time – If it is expensive then it must be on trend and look good.
This is not true.
Style, particularly your own, is about finding out what you like and what makes you feel good. This can be a $1,000 pair of jeans, or (in my case) a $50 pair and I bet that most people wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.
Don’t get me wrong, I love luxury items. But only if they are my style and make me insanely happy when I’m wearing them, not because of the name on the tag.
